History
In 1945, a group of potters in the West Island area of Montreal found working premises on the campus of MacDonald College. Later, the potters group moved to a private house in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue before returning to the campus. Some years later, the potters again moved to a private house in Baie d’Urfé. In 1965, the “Baie d’Urfé Potters Guild” established a studio in “The Coop” on Lakeshore Road in Baie d’Urfé.
In 1969, the Whiteside Taylor Centre was built to house an observation cooperative nursery school and day care center and include a library, an arts and crafts room and a pottery studio. At last the Guild had a home! The Guild appreciates the town’s ongoing support and the cooperative atmosphere of the community space. With the help of members and friends, the Guild designed and furnished the studio to accommodate hand and wheel working areas, glaze preparation space and a kiln. Over time, the Guild has purchased additional wheels and kilns, a slab roller and most recently an extruder with a large expansion box. |
